Elvis died which really sucked but some other great actors were born that year. I also adore Stephen King so much that's one of his best book ever. :)

The Shining was the first book of his I ever read--I was 8, and I found it in my Dad's nightstand, along with an impressive stash of porno mags (quite the tit man, my father). It blew my mind that you could begin a book the way he began that one: "Jack Torrance thought: Officious little prick." I was fascinated. I ended up swiping it and reading it over the course of the next week. The nudie mags? I flipped through them and all, but I was so used to seeing my mom/older sister naked that they didn't really impress me. I was more excited about the book.

Love Star Wars, too. And that was awful nice of President Carter, pardoning the draft-dodgers and all.

But no mention of punk rock? New wave? Just Debby fucking Boone? Ewwwww...

True ewwwww
